Governor Whitmer recently asked the Michigan legislature to pass $100 million in funding for businesses and the employees of businesses that have been impacted the most by the COVID-19 shutdowns. At this time, the legislature has not introduced any legislation to provide this funding for our industry that is in desperate need of financial assistance. The legislature will be leaving Lansing sometime in the next two weeks, and will be gone until after the new year, so they must act now and pass this industry-saving legislation. They cannot wait.
Call Your State Legislators
We need every MLBA member to call their local legislator and state how important this funding is to save our industry. Below is a prompt you can read or send by email.
Hello, [LEGISLATOR NAME], my name is [YOUR NAME] and I am the owner of [BUSINESS NAME] in your district. I am calling to urge you to please pass legislation that will provide stimulus money for the hospitality industry. I also urge you to please ensure that, if passed, this financial assistance would only be available to businesses that were hurt the most by the pandemic, like bars, restaurants, bowling alleys and family entertainment centers. Thank you.
Call Your Federal Legislators
We also ask that you please contact your federal legislators and urge them to pass the Restaurant Act of 2020, which would provide $120 billion in funding for the hospitality industry.
